Hike up Baldy Mountain
|
Half way up the trail, Baldy Mountain peaks out over the thousands of Pine Trees that greet you along the way. Nice, wide trail for hikers, skiers and dogs. |
| I happened upon Mark, Katie, Marley the dog and there 6 month old daughter Lucy. They were cross-country skiing with Lucy in the sled. |
|
|
My dog, Malcolm, joins me on most of my trips. My wife Tracey was working at the best restaurant in Breckenridge, The Hearthstone, today. |
| Here is your goal, The Iowa Mill. |

| One of the many parts of history left at The Iowa Mill. |

There happened to be two snowmobilers and plenty of skiers there today. Great backountry skiing today. Experts only! The clouds started moving in so it was time to head back. Time for Jalepeno Stuffed Shrimp at the Hearthstone! |

This is a nice, easy walk, snowshoe, ski, jog, etc. Dogs LOVE it and the
views are incredible! About 30 - 45 minutes into the walk, you come across
the Iowa Mill, which was a working mine in 1935. The cables from the mine
are still intact and the owners still come and visit. If you have enough energy
and water, there is a weather station at the top of the ridge as a goal or
the top of Mt. Baldy is another hour away, from the weather station!
You start the hike at about 10,500 ft. The Iowa Mill is at 11,234 ft.
You can see the whole Ten Mile Range from the Iowa Mill, which includes the Breckenridge Ski Area. It is truly breath-taking.
