Hike up to Mt. Royal
|
You start off at a very simple sign. Don't be fooled, it is a tough climb but worth it for the views at the top. |
| A short way up, 10 - 20 minutes, you come across the old mining camp of Masontown. Right now it is covered in snow. I'll come back in the summer to take more pictures. This is the spectacular view just this short way up. |

Malcolm is really starting to enjoy all of these hikes and becoming a little more adventurous. |
| Here is your goal, the top of Mt. Royal and all of the expansive views.
Way across the way are the twin 14 thousand foot Grays and Torreys Peaks. A goal for a beautiful summer day. Below is part of Lake Dillon. Out of the picture to the right is the Keystone Ski Area. |
|
Once you come over the top, this is your view, with Buffalo Mountain in the middle. Buffalo Mountain is another great hike and goal for the summer time. |

Right next to the trailhead is Fiesta Jalisco and thank goodness because a margarita was in order and well deserved!!! |

Coming from Denver, west on I-70 to Copper Mountain or Vail, you will pass
the historic town of Frisco. Frisco offers many great restaurants, shops,
events and access to Lake Dillon. Mt. Royal looms over Frisco from the west
and actually is the northern most part of the Ten Mile Range, sitting under
Peak 1.
This is a steep hike most of the way up, so make sure to bring your hiking
legs, lots of water and a Subway sandwich because once you get to the top
you'll want to stay there for a while!
You get to see where the old town off Masontown once stood before an avalanche
destroyed the old mining camp. You can actually see where the new aspens have
grown up in its place.
30 minutes to an hour and you will have views of Lake Dillon, Buffalo Mountain, Keystone, Grays and Torreys (fourteeners) and a whole lot more.
