TODAY IN COLORADO
February 22, 2004
1st day of a killer Back Country
Ski Weekend near Wolf Creek
|
This is the yurt, almost buried by the 86 inches of snow surrounding it. Very comfortable and snug!! |
|
The first day was a lot of breaking trail. Pushing through 1 to 2
feet of snow. |
|
|
At the end of the day, there was a lot of Bridge playing! |

Wolf Creek is in the Southern Colorado Rockies and San Juan Mountains. My
friend Rodney decided to put a backcountry yurt trip together for 6 of us
on this weekend. We started off from the Wolf Creek Ski Area parking lot and
hiked in for 2 hours, breaking trail in about a foot and a half of snow!!
You pack in all of your food, sleeping bag and change of clothes. The yurt
provides two bunk beds, a wood stove and wood, a 4 propane burner stove, utensils,
cards and other outdoor necessities.
All around the yurt is incredible skiing, we would hike up about 600 ft, ski
down and do it all over again. FRESH TRACKS every time!!!
